Comenzó su carrera discográfica a mediados de los años noventa en el sello independiente mexicano Fonovisa y se convirtió en el artista en español más vendido de la década. On March 30, 1997 Iglesias launched the second world tour of his career. With the Vivir Tour, he gave more than 60 concerts in 16 countries in the Americas and Europe. The tour began in Odessa, Texas (USA). He performed three consecutive nights at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico and two at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He also gave concerts in 19 stadiums in the U.S.[15] The tour was backed by the musical production team of Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Billy Joel or Elvis Presley.
On September 22, 1998 he released his third studio album called Cosas del amor. Two singles were released from this album: “Esperanza” and “Nunca te olvidaré”. Both songs reached the first position in the Billboard charts.
With the Cosas del Amor Tour, Iglesias performed more than 80 shows. The tour was the first time that the multinational McDonald’s sponsored an artist. One of his shows in Acapulco (Mexico) was televised.
From this album, co-written entirely by Iglesias, came other hit singles in North America such as “Escape” and “Don’t turn off the lights”. The fourth single “Love to see you cry” was recorded in English and French, the first time Iglesias sang in that language.
