September begins with the coronavirus curve in general decline throughout the country, a positive trend that is also observed in large cities. In 168 of the 175 cities with more than 40,000 inhabitants the cases of coronavirus are decreasing -in eighty of them the infections have been reduced by half in two weeks-. In five others, cases are at a plateau and are only increasing in Ourense (+18% in two weeks) and Motril (+15%).
The continued fall in infections leaves incidences that have not been seen for weeks. Almost half of the population lives in municipalities where the incidence is less than 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days. This situation is repeated in large cities: almost half are below this threshold. In addition, only 2% of the population lives in localities with more than 500 cases.
It should be borne in mind that the data from the communities are not always homogeneous among themselves due to the type of tests included, the dates on which they update their figures or due to changes in the publication of the data in the same month. The update date of each community depends on each one of them: most of them keep their figures updated weekly but some are late when it comes to refreshing their figures.

Transmission has been dropping at high speed for weeks. In all provinces, with the exception of the autonomous city of Melilla, the current incidence is below half of what it was at the worst moment of the fifth wave. Moreover, 29 of them have managed to reduce their incidence by 80% or more since the peak of infection recorded this summer. The reduction in transmission throughout the country means that nine provinces have managed to reduce their incidence to below 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Aragón (16), Castilla-La Mancha (15.0) and Castilla y León (13.3) are the three communities that have reported the most deaths per 100,000 inhabitants this summer. La Rioja, Ceuta and Andalusia are the next in the ranking, with a rate of more than 10 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The rest of the territory is below this threshold, with the Valencian Community and Cantabria being the regions that have reported the fewest deaths in relation to their population since the beginning of the summer.
